Nutrition Counseling & What to Expect

Individualized, compassionate nutrition support in Chico, Paradise, throughout Butte County, and online.

Nutrition Sessions

What happens during nutrition counseling?

Our work together is individualized to you. During sessions, we may look at your current eating patterns, medical and nutrition history, relationship with food and body, symptoms, lifestyle, and the goals that brought you to counseling.

Depending on your needs, we may work on meal structure, adequate nourishment, digestive health, food fears, intuitive eating, body image, nutrition around medications, or other concerns.

You won’t receive a one-size-fits-all diet. My goal is to help you find an approach to nutrition that supports your health while also being realistic, flexible, and sustainable.

What to Expect

Initial Session

Your first session gives us time to review your medical and nutrition history, current eating patterns, food and body concerns, symptoms, lifestyle, and goals. Together, we’ll identify your priorities and create a starting plan for our work. Initial paperwork will be completed before your first appointment.

Follow-Up Sessions

A 50-minute weekly or bi-weekly session, which can be determined in the initial session and/or changed as your work with the nutrition counselor progresses. These sessions are individualized and are based on previous sessions.

Collaboration with Your Health Care Team

When appropriate, I collaborate with physicians, therapists, psychiatrists, and other healthcare professionals involved in your care. This can be especially important when working with eating disorders or more complex medical and nutrition concerns.

Parent & Caregiver Support

Supporting a child or teen with nutrition concerns can feel overwhelming. Parent and caregiver sessions provide education, practical strategies, and guidance for supporting eating and nutrition at home.

Depending on your child’s age and needs, we may also use parent check-ins to review current goals, discuss progress, and help you feel more confident supporting the work we are doing together.

For younger children, nutrition counseling may be primarily parent-focused.

Restaurant Outing

Restaurant sessions provide an opportunity to practice eating in a real-world setting. Depending on your goals, we may work on food exposures, pacing, flexibility, mindfulness, or feeling more comfortable ordering and eating foods that feel challenging.

Restaurant outings typically last 60–90 minutes. Clients are responsible for the cost of the session and food purchased during the outing.

In-Home Meal Support

In-home sessions allow us to work together in your everyday eating environment. We may focus on meal preparation, eating with family, food exposures, menu planning, pacing, or building confidence around meals.

In-home sessions typically last 90–120 minutes. Clients are responsible for the cost of the session and food used during the session.
